Accession Number
This field stores the unique identifying number assigned to a reference by an
online database.

Added to Library This is a special, non-editable field. This field is automatically assigned a date when the reference is added to your library. Alternate Title This field stores the additional title field often used for abbreviated journal

Annotation Additional notes or comments.
Authenticated Session An authenticated session occurs when you log into EndNote online with a valid IP, Shibboleth credentials, or username/password through Web of Science™.
Author, Attribution or Create By This field stores the author or authors responsible for the source of work. This
field may be named according to the reference type. For example, the author
field is labeled Reporter for a newspaper article.
See the examples below for different ways to enter author names. Whenever possible,
provide full first and middle names for all authors. EndNote will truncate
to initials and insert "et al." if required by the bibliography output
style selected.

Bibliography A list of references used in a paper or article. Its purpose
is to provide enough information for the interested reader
to locate the original source.
Book Section A reference type specific for a section of a book only.

Call Number This field stores the code assigned by the library holding the source information.
Caption This field stores the description of a figure, image or illustration.
Citation Attribution in a written work where source material is quoted,
paraphrased or otherwise used.
Citation Prefix text This character in a temporary citation indicates that the text preceding the
character is prefix text. Using the default "\" character for example, {See \Smith,
1999} will format as (See Smith 1999) when using an author date output style.
City, Conference Location, Country, Activity Location, or Place Published This field stores the city or location of publication, such as San Francisco, California or Chicago, Illinois. For some styles, the city
name is sufficient, but others may require city and state or country.

Import Filter An import filter is a file consisting of one or more reference
type templates that instruct EndNote online how to interpret and

ISBN ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique identifying code assigned
to a nonperiodical publication.
ISSN ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is a unique identifying code assigned
to a serial publication or periodical, such as a journal.
J
Journal A periodical or written work that is published regularly covering current topics
in specialized areas of study. This reference field stores the name of the journal. This can be entered as the
full title or the abbreviated title. If using abbreviated titles in
your bibliography, enter the journal abbreviation in this field for all journal
article references. Also, note that journal abbreviations may differ among
bibliography output styles. To include both the full and abbreviated
title, use the Alternate Journal field.

Number, Bill Number, Document Number, Folio Number, Funding Number, Issue, Issue Number, Manuscript Number, Report Number, Session Number, or Statute Number This field stores the identifying number for the source, often an issue for journal
articles or issue number for magazine articles.
Number of Volumes This field stores the total number of volumes in a series.

Original Publication This field is available when using a reference from a republished work. This
field often contains the year of the original publication, but additional information
can also be entered here.

Pages, Code Pages, Start Page, Number of Pages, or Issue This field stores the specific pages within a source or total number of pages.
This can be a single page, the entire number of pages in a work, or page range.
For a range of pages, you can use full page numbers, such as 2150-2155, or
abbreviated numbers, such as 2150-5. Do not use commas for page numbers one
thousand or greater.

Parenthetical Citation A citation included within the text of a written document

Performers This field stores the individual or company name of those performing in audiovisual

Periodical A periodical is a printed work that is published at regular
intervals such as a journal, newspaper, or magazine.
Publisher, Producer or University This field stores the company, conference, institution or organization responsible

Recipient This field stores the person receiving the communication being referenced.
Reference Fields Specific fields of information gathered from a reference, for example, an author, title, or publication date.
Reference List A list of references cited in a paper or article. Its purpose
is to provide enough information for the reader to locate the original sources.
Reference Type A specified source type determined by the type of publication,
section cited or the means of delivery. Books, journal articles,
or book sections are examples of different reference types.
Refman (RIS) Export File format using specific tags to import and export references to and from reference management applications such as EndNote, Reference Manager and ProCite.
Reprint Edition This field stores the original title and year of a source if the source is a
reprinted publication.

Secondary or Tertiary Title This field stores the secondary title or tertiary title for the source.
Section, Code Section This field stores the section where the source appears. For example, you would
type F in this field for a newspaper article that appears in Section F.
Series Title This field stores the title of the Series where the source of information appeared.
Short Title This field stores the shortened version of the primary title.
Source A firsthand document or primary reference work.
Surname An individual's last name or family name.
T
Tab-Delimited Universal file format using tabs as the delimiter between fields.
This format is used to import and export references between
reference management applications as well as database and
spreadsheet software.
Times Cited This is a special, non-editable field for Web of Science™ records.
This field provides the count of other works citing this reference and will link
to
the list in Web of Science.
Temporary Citation A placeholder that EndNote replaces with a formatted citation when formatting the bibliography. Temporary citations are indicated by temporary citation delimiters.See Format Paper for related information.
Temporary Citation Delimiters Characters used to enclose temporary citations. They identify the beginning and
end of a temporary, or unformatted, citation. Examples of temporary citation
delimiters are curly brackets.See Format Paper for related information.
Title This field stores the title of the source material. This is the primary
title of the source.
When entering a title, do not include punctuation, hard returns or
linebreaks. Capitalize the title as you would like it to appear in
your
bibliography.
